Hold off on the UVB for a while. They are recovering and you dont want to stir things up so sudden. I'd say give it a few more days (2 - 3 at max).

What are you using for a basking heat source? A regular lamp?

I think this is the 2nd Reptisun 5.0 that has caused problems.

So glad they're doing better! Wait a few more days before turning on the UVB bulb then watch closely to see how the turtles react. If they're suddenly reluctant to get up and bask you'll need to move it further away.

And Steve, it's also my recollection that this is the second Reptisun 5.0 CF that's caused a problem.

You are. The basking bulb is for UVA and the Reptisun 5.0 is for UVB. Your on the right track.

The instructions for the bulb were added to the original post with their letter. Just click on the link for the 5.0 bulb instructions. You should probably move the bulb up to 17" away and keep it there for the first 3 weeks. Zoo Med said these bulbs need to "burn in" for the first 2 or 3 weeks and that they will emit a higher level of UVB during this period. After the 3 weeks, you can move them closer, maybe 13" or so. Just keep a very close eye on the turtle's eyes especially tomorrow after you first turn them back on. If you notice any irritation turn the lights off immediately, move them a few inches further away and try again the next day (give the turtle's time to heal again).

SpotsMama is sending several of these bulbs to a private testing laboratory to see if there is something else wrong with them. It will be very "enlightening" to see what the results will be.

Super pun...On a side note, did you know exo terra makes a compact bulb hood? I don't quite understand the point since you could just get a tube light but they do.
