Love of Animals wrote:Usually when medications expire the active ingredient is less effective. How old is the one you have?

I bought it 2 months ago.

steve wrote:@novroz - you mean what time for some sun? Any sun is good, but the strongest amount of UV will be in the early afternoon. It can get pretty hot, so early morning should be fine.

The SSD cream I've used had an expiration date and was in a tightly sealed container. If it does work on the type of fungus your turtle has, results would be quick and the infection could be gone in a week.

I thought noon was not allowed (as it is dangerous for human),thanks for telling me this. Will let Kroten has her sunbath in afternoon now.

I applied the ointment once every 2 days and ut didn't show any improvement. should I use it more often?

See how comfortable it is for her. If she's always in the shade, then she feels too hot. Like I said, any sun is good but you want your RES to feel comfortable too.

What did you do when you applied it?

@Moose I guess that because I didn't put where I lived all these years. I didn't realize I haven't written it till earlier this month;)

@Steve Kame has that awful fungus too now :( Her shell has just shed and I hate seeing that fungus on her.
Kroten can stay very long under the sun but kame always gets back home after 10 minutes, all she can think about is getting inside the house again. She hates being outdoor.

I applied it at night and let them sleep next to my bed on apiece of fabric (They always sleep like that), so they had the ointment for about 6 to 8 hours. I clean it in the morning before I put them back to their tank.

Just want to let you all know that Kroten is getting better.
Silver Sulphadiazine really works after all :)

Very nice! As a caution, make sure that the tank water is clean and there is plenty of basking. The fungus is much harder to get rid of if it comes back.

I am planning to continue using acriflavine as prevention. Is that okay?

I haven't used it before, so I can't say. Though any form of preventative care is good and you'll have a chance to spot it early.

I've tried Sulfa-Dip and it didn't do anything.

Silver Sulfadiazine (aka: SSD, Silvadene and Thermazene) is the only thing that I am certain is effective. It also might have no effect if it comes back.
