Urgent Care :: Shell Shedding? or Something Bad?

i used table salt - I didn't see the last post about mine......
they were 15mins long
i gave him 2 baths yesterday and 1 bath today
i put him back in the water and he did it twice, then we went to sleep holding onto the turtle dock bars with his head close to the top of the water, i monitored him for 15 mins and he wasn't "coughing" so i feel less worried about him sleeping tonight.

Ok - don't give him any more salt baths with table salt. It's very likely that he was dehydrated and his little liver probably can't cope with all that salt. I'm not sure why that would make him cough/hiccup though. Don't be too hard on yourself, we all make mistakes ^^ At least you know now not to use table salt.

If he's sleeping holding onto the basking dock and he won't be disturbed by cats or anything during the night, then he'll probably be ok. If you really want to play it safe, you could dry dock him overnight in a warm container and a towel so he feels secure.

I would take him into a vet to get that scute tested instead of doing salt baths. Your vet can tell you whether it's fungal or bacterial and give you the right course of treatment so that it doesn't spread anymore.

i think i'm going to try the sun in a few hours first.
his scute is getting better its no longer a solid white color

do you think his liver will be ok? just give him some time to recover?

You sound like me; worrying so hard that things are made worse. He should be fine. Give him some time and make sure he still eats well. If he's dehydrated, dry docking might make it worse. A few hours outside in something he can't escape every day for the next couple days could do worlds of good too.

well i just read the 3 pages to yr thread .... u r worried like all of us here ... if u search fr my threads i hv had this prob with my turtle as well ... and u just have this one white spot ... my turtle had this white on each nd every part of her shell .... i was worried like a mother those days... so i can imagine how u feel ... and i was in worst condition then u because my country doesnt have turtle products here not even UVB ... so i just took my turtle on morning walks on my terrace nd stood there so no bird or cat can come near my lil turtle .... and after 30-40 mins of sunlight i used to clean my turtle a bit then put her bak in turtle tank so the water stays clean ... anywayz ... then i made an outdoor setup just a small box with some stones to bask and some water .... and then after 40 mins i used to take my turtle bak in BUT .. before taking her bak i used to pick her up in my hand and try to rub her shell with my hand softly with some water and my turtle`s shell became green from 100% white shell my turtles shell came bak to normal so fr me my turtle is a miracle turtle however i have order TURTLE SULFA DIP for future and to be on the safe side ... i wont suggest u using CREAMS on turtles shell as i have googled and searched a bit many ppl avoid creams e.g turtle vita shell is considered bad actually ppl say it traps bacteria in turtle shell and shell cant get air nd breathe something like tht and eventually yr turtle can die ... so if u r worried and nothing works and u CANT go to vet fr some reason then u may try the SULFA DIP! a guy here on forums had same white shell prob nd sulfa dip fixed the prob fr him ... anywayz u mite wanna consult this wit the admins here .... but i just thought of sharing my opinion wid u as it mite b some help to u
