how do you know he doesnt like being alone? RES are solitary creatures, they prefer to be alone...everyone on this site would agree that one turt is enough, and if you get two, you are taking a chance with aggressive and must be prepared to have a complete seperate setup. and even if you dont see them being aggressive doesnt mean it doesnt happen. No one watches their turt 24-7. I agree with eddie, it must be taken to a vet, and it looks like an aggressive turt bite.

I have three turts too and I can't see keeping them together much longer, (maybe another year). I think I could handle two if I get a 150+ gal tank. But three in a 90 gal just won't last, not enough space.......

I'd say no. Fluttering can be interpreted as aggression, but not always, its also a sign of mating.

Then take him somewhere else, that turtle needs to be seen. It's cut/burn/or whatever it is, is probably infected. With infections, the earlier you treat it: the cheaper and faster it will take, as well as its chance of survival will sky rocket.

If the vet you contacted isn't taking any new patients (a herp vet would do this?), then try to find another one. It would be good to separate the one turtle for now.

If there is aggression, then separating them is the only practical option. If it was an injury/bite, then its necessary. If is an infection, then they should be separated anyway. If one is being treated, it should be separated from the rest.

Its a hard thing to do but its in the best interest of your turtle(s).

As for money, Kristin mentions the Feb 07 issue of Jane has some ideas. I haven't looked at, but it's worth looking into it.
