Sometimes we speak before we think. Or we say things we didn't mean. Either way, I've seen people get really beat up in other forums. Whether they deserved it or not, it brought out the ugly side of everyone involved. I'd hate to see that kind of behavior creep into this forum. Just my 2 cents.

so i have a 45W lightbulb and they go up on the dock, but they don't spread their legs as much

i had a 60W but it burnt out and they would spread their legs on the dock then, should i switch back to a 60W?

What's the basking temp with the 45-watt bulb (88-90F is good)? If you get in that range with a 45-watt bulb, fine. If not, use a higher wattage (or try to move the 45-watt closer, but not too close so that they can touch it and possibly burn themselves on it. Do they have a UVB light as well?

yup UVB included, ok then i'll just rip off the therometer for the water, dry it off and test it out

You have a 45-watt bulb that includes UVB? I've never heard of one with that low of a wattage. Conventional UVB lights don't give off enough heat for basking---they're flourescent.

They usually dont measure ubv lights with wattage... I believe mine says 5.0, are you sure its a uvb bulb? just because its flourescent doesnt mean its giving off uvb rays...

Let me clarify my post above---if you've got a 45-watt UVB bulb that's giving off UVB rays, it's more than likely flourescent, which means it's not giving off any real heat. The 60-watt bulb sounds like it was the heat source (and your turtle needed an additional UVB bulb). If you've interchanged the 60-watt bulb for a 45-watt UVB(?) light, now your turtle needs an additional light for heat.
