If you keep your turtle healthy (clean water and habitat, balanced diet, etc.) and wash your hands after handling him or his things, you should have no salmonella worries.

I wouldn't use distilled water for turtles--the minerals have been taken out, and turtles need them. Perhaps the person was talking about using a dechlorinator if you're using tap water and it's been treated.

wow all the pets I love got the same stuff (not to count the chicken I eat lol) Goats turtles dogs cats got em all here and not ever been sick. all joking aside was interesting at the animals that are not band from pet stores and petting zoos hey......I heard that long time ago turtles were very popular the way they treated em very inexpensive hardy interesting pets,well babies were choking or having to have tummy pumped b caz they were actually swallowing them tiny things so along with the diseases and the ease a baby could swallow em hince came the 4 inch laws, not as easy to get a plate size object down ur throat as is a quarter sized one???????????? 8) :?:

i was looking at the salmonella stuff and it says "unless the infection has spread from the intestines" whatt does this mean? Because I am curious for my info

The salmonella bacteria is carried in the intestines and is shed from them when the turtle is ill or under stress. Perhaps this is what is meant by spreading from the intestines.
