Yeah, it does look like shedding to me, my turtles look like that right now, it kinda looks like slime, but when you take them out of the water you can't see it anymore. I would be careful with algaecides, remember that the turtle will drink the water in the container.

that looks like the cottony fungus I have ran into on the little wild babies found trapped in stagnant waters, my opion is if the way ur doing it is working keep it up, clean their regular tank good and add the drops there too, my pet store was very helpful to how many to put in. I think it was exact directions that u would that the bottle said for fish tanks but to be honest this was years ago and I dont know for sure. if theres a pet store u can trust ask em let us know. I do remember the cotton fungus seemed to itch the little guys,also I was VERY uneducated and knew nothing about shedding so perhaps I over reacted ??????

I can also see that on his legs, the good news is that I don't see that when he's out of water. Just wondering does RES lose a bit of appetite when they are shedding and how long would it last?

I cleaned the tank without adding any medication for now, thanks everyone for the information!

lydia_lady_fla - Thanks for the information, I was worried that it was fungus too! I think it's better to be on the cautious side!

It shouldn't last that long. If you want, you could get some aquarium salt (not table salt) and add it to the tank water when you change it. You can get it cheaply at Walmart; follow the directions on the package. Some say this helps.

I don't think lack of appetite is related to shedding.

Unfortunately, I found out he is also basking a lot (pretty much whole day) and there is a little bit of foam around the mouth area..... Is this a sign of illness? The fact that he is also not eating would suggest that he is sick...

I have found a Vet in your website which is very close to my home, I will give him a call tomorrow and see if I can make an appointment....... hopefully he will be ok....

it can be Respiratory infection, is he swimming poorly or to one side? definitely get him to the vet ASAP.

Hi - went to the vet today and he said the little guy is doing fine - no sign of illness. However, he did point out that:
- A UVB light is required
- Try to include feeder minnow / earthworm as part of his diet

I would treat the cost of the visit as a consultation fee instead , knowing that the little baby is doing fine is also priceless.
I have bought some additional equipments and have attached the photo in the previous message.

Glad to hear he's OK.

However, I still think that he is sick. He is not eating and basking alot........ The vet said if I put him in a bath of 50% V8 and 50% beef broth this is bring back his appetite. Did anybody heard of this trick before?

I've never heard of that... What are the temps of the water and basking area? If the water is too cool, he may be basking more to stay warm. You could also try tempting him will smelly foods--bits of tuna or salmon packed in water, boiled white chicken meat, etc.
