No I've felt it when I clean his tank..it gets warm but not ment for baby turtle ment for beta tank..I should have known better..I need an appropriaye heater but in order to get that I need a tank that can use it :-(

ill never believe another thing an employee of a pet shopgstore says..even the one that was more knowlegable shoulda prompted me to get the actual tank..instead she just wanted the sell of what ever I thought would be best..and she was the turtle girl..!! Ugh I've have consistantly made all the wrong desicions for this little guy, including buying him..I shouldn't say that tho since he's been here I've spent more time with him than well anything..even my cats getting jelious..if I had known how much care, and not to mention moneey this would involve I probably would have waited till I had more money to do this right..instead I got blindsided during x-mas..it kills me..sorry steve I'm doin what I can for now and sorry bout the rant wanted to rant to someone who got I guess..

You're doing your best now and that's what counts. We all made mistakes when we first got ours so don't blame yourself. The important thing is that you are educating yourself and trying to do the right thing. That hatchling has a better chance in your care than someone who didn't try at all. See if you can return that heater, they do have smaller heaters for fish tanks. What about keeping the turtle in a warmer room?

Mmm I could try that..hottest room in the house is my mothers but that's also the loudest too the dogs bark at everything...I would rather keep him in here..I have a 3 yr old that loves to look at skipperdee..kept him in here for fear she would try to touch him or worse knock off the lampsi could rearrage my rooom and get him another foot or so from the window..he's currently about 2 feet from window...this might also be y I can't regulte temps..ill try ggutting the room and rearranging around his tank and see if that helps

That's OK, You're right, his safety is more important.

Tomorrow ill try to get a good pic of his tail too.. he doesn't like to cooperate much..he's terrified of me..that is unless its food time..he sleep right where I drop his food :-)

like he don't wanna miss it..he's so funny to watch..if I just sit there all quiet and still he will come up to the face of his tank and sip water at me.

Hey steve is there a way to make tap water safe without useing chemicals?...if I can save money on his water I could possibly afford a better heater

So here r the pics of the tail before and after...couldn't find a clear one for when he was sheeding..now he looks like the poor min pins my grandma bobs their tails..looks similar

Carbon filter media will remove a lot of impurities. It looks like there was something wrong with the tail in the last pic.. probably bitten or a deformity.

Ok so apparently before I bought him then another baby bit his tail essentially crimping it..and then in much the same as the bobbing of a min pins tail it fell off...well with as many babys that were in there its not too much of a jump to assume that to be correct..poor skipperdee

oh my mom said that my dad said that....leaving tap water out and open in a gallon jug will evaporate the chlorine? How long does it need to sit out..I have carbon in my filter too just didn't want to burn him while it filters...

I'm not sure what "and then in much the same as the bobbing of a min pins tail it fell off" means. Just make sure it heals correctly and it should be fine.

Chlorine evaporates in 12-24 hours. Chloramines does not evaporate. If your city/town uses chloramines, then it will still be in the water.

How do u take out the choramines? The filter?

Cool that's gonna save a bunch of moneyright now..how long should I let the filter run the water thru before it will be safe to put skipperdee in thbere?
