Yeah, something happen when I got a new turtle . I would talk to him and try get a refund or something. Remember for most cases it would take a turtle longer than a week to get dead from a sickness.

There's no way that a turtle can catch a deadly illness and die within 1.5 weeks. He had something when you bought him. Improper care takes years to kill little turtles. I would bring it up to your seller. I'm also sorry for your little guy. He's in a better place though.

Thanks everyone for your support.

I don't know if anyone else finds this weird, but I origianally sent Paul a message about him being sick on the 29, and then a message about his death on friday, and I have not recieved a reply to either of them.

This pissed me off. I just got this:

"Sorry, there's no refund. As you acknowledged upon receipt, the turtle was healthy and feeding when it arrived. Inadequate conditions after shipping can absolutely cause a turtle to decline and die within a week. A bare tank with no basking light or hiding places in the water is certainly not adequate. Those turtles went from mid-80's temps to room temp literally overnight, which could shock almost any turtle. I'm actually pleasantly surprised that the venusta is still doing well.

Like I said, next year if the venusta is still doing well and you'd like to try again with an emolli, I'll give you a good deal on one.

Paul"

And I replied like this:

"I had a heater and a UV light when the turtles arrived. My room is usually 80 Degrees anyway living where I do. Their is a hiding spot under the basking spot. One day of no basking light will not kill a turtle.

And just because a turtle is sluggish and sick, doesn't mean they won't eat. When I said they were healthy, I had assumed that the Nicaraguan was just settling in, not sick on arrival."

Clearly he's not a good person to do business with, it's just unfortunate that this is how you had to find out.

I find that the best breeders are the ones who aren't in it for the money. If you genuinely care about your breed or species, then bettering their breeding stock is what matters, not making quick money on sick animals.

Unfortunately if you agreed that the turtle was healthy on arrival, there really isn't any action you can take legally to get a refund. But you certainly can tell people about your bad experience and hopefully detract them from giving that man business and prevent them from painfully losing a turtle as well.

I'm sorry you had to go through that.

What a shame. Obviously the seller is a slug. With luck, he'll be out of business before too long. Exotic turtles are a pretty small niche, word gets around.

Unfortunetley he has his own sticky topic on turtleforum.com because of all of his postive reviews.

Well if I were you I'd certainly post a well-worded review of your experience with Paul.
There's no shame in being honest and hopefully preventing other people from having the same unfortunate fate you had when you did business with the guy.
You certainly weren't treated right and people deserve to know who they'll be dealing with if they choose to buy from him.

I will post a bad review, unless I talk him into giving me back my money.
