Urgent Care :: Scared the crap out of me!!

Hi swlin, I would look at a more appropriate stand for your tank immediately! A screen can be made by someone with basic experience with tools. Some even use oven grills or something similar. And it's much cheaper than an emergency vet visit!

I know the stand is unstable. Since I came back from residence with my turtles, I have been trying to convince my mom that this stand is unstable and we should get another one (and I will pay for it). Her excuse is that there is no more space in the living room for another stand, which is totally not true! We had so many arguments and she never listened. and it's her house, what can I do.

I guess she doesn't care if my turtles die since she doesn't like pets! I guess the only thing i can do right now is to cross my finger and hope that the stand will last another 2 months, and I will be out the that house and try not to come back ever again.

As for the screen, I will search it up and probably make one myself. As for now, I will just put a binder on the top at night. Coke only escapes during night time.

Ya, that stand makes me way nervous. The tank not being on a completely even surface can cause a lot of stress on the frame and lead to cracks or warping. And every 10 gallons of water is around 120 pounds (not positive, but around there), so you might want to invest in a stable stand (or make one).

swlin, over a long period of time that big, beautiful tank you have will burst, shattering glass and water and turtle all over your room.

Why?

That stand you have is too small. That way, the areas without support under them will have even more weight. It's like 1 plane of glass holding a very heavy load on one side. You should get a stand that will make sure the weight is distributed evenly or just put it on the floor.

Well, you could still move it to the floor, I guess.

Yep, it's a good idea to put a cover on it, but make sure you leave a few spaces for air, or you might end of suffocating him.

Your tank can go on the floor. Your mom might even like that idea even better so that way she gets to use the stand for something else. Parents usually only consent to something when something benefits them. It's how I convince mine when I need something for my turtles.
