If you put some white vinegar (full strength) on a q-tip and rub a small area gently, that should be ok to see if anything comes off. You can rinse the area with a little plain water afterward if you want to.

Ok, so I scrubbed Mrs. Turtle with a toothbrush. The q-tips just smeared all over and didn't do anything. I didn't use anything except water and almost all the pink stuff is gone! Here are some picutures:

Much better (I hope you were gentle with the toothbrush). It sounds like the color could have been a reaction to what the water was being treated with.

Some bacteria colonies have a pink color. If you can get some Hibiclense (it's a hand wash for people that can be found in stores like Walgreens), dilute it to half strength with water, then, with a turtle in the sink so he/she can't fall, GENTLY wash the shell with the solution, it may help prevent a recurrance. Take care not to get any in their eyes and be sure to rinse thoroughly in cool water (Hibiclense is a soap and can be irritating if it's not rinsed off.

Having had fish aquariums for many years and having dealt with the Ick treatment, I can tell you that it will stain anything in your aquarium. I would bet that this is what you are dealing with if your turtles are not showing any signs of illnes. In the future, I would be very cautious as to what I put in the tank with the turtles. If you have to treat the tank in the future, you may want to remove the turles temporarily and place them in a large container until the treatment is complete.

I will keep that in mind! I wonder if that is what killed my baby turtle.

This is beyond the bascomb household. In the many years I have had turtles I have never seen this. It may be circulatory but I am not sure.
I would get back to the basics with clean water, proper temp. raise to about 80degrees, proper lighting and clean water. Good Luck
