Urgent Care :: Shell Rot with a mystery

The vet clinics in my area are currently not seeing any new patients at this time. Which is why I turned to the forum for some temporary help.

I'm so sorry to hear Murphy didn't make it. He was in pretty rough shape, you really did everything you could for him. He was lucky to have someone care for him at all, at least you gave him a peaceful end, the poor little thing.


p.s. I would give that petstore hell- I'd ream quite a few people out in fact. The shape that he was in was absolutely cruel, and someone should hear about it. If the store's manager won't respond to it and change things, then I'd report the store. In fact, I'd report the store anyways. They'd have to be blind idiots not to notice a turtle like that suffering.

I wouldn't wait to see if the petstore changes things---I'd report the store period. Anyone who sells a turtle in that condition shouldn't be caring for any turtle (or other pet for that matter). Keep the pics as proof of how you got him.

ALI 20 -- I have ranted about these pet stores around the US and I have not found any that should have a turtle in it. The only qualification you have to have to work at one of these pet stores is to be able to breathe. It would be one thing if you worked there and wanted to learn but they don't. Most of them do know where the time clock is, but have a hard time finding the bathroom. None of the stores could give me the correct temperature of the water in a tank and none of them had a uvb light. When you ask them about the condition they do the ''Texas Two Step'' and when confronted directly are all of sudden struck stupid or get angry and refer you to the manager, which knows even less. ''We will look into it''. I could rant on for a long time about these guys. AAAGHHH B.

I honestly knew more about turtles than that store did, they had to call their warehouse to get answers for my questions which I already knew. I will report the store. I pointed out to them about six weeks ago that they had a sick turtle. I noticed he still wasnt in better shape. We ended up buying him named him Murphy and we didnt get to him soon enough.

But the good thing though Murphy got along with my other turtle Sandy very well. Hopefully I will have some hatchlings maybe. Yes I did catch them in the act before he died.

Sadly, the scenario of uneducated store clerks seems increasingly common lately. The fact that poor Murphy was sick for weeks is heartbreaking.
I'm glad you're reporting them.
