Urgent Care :: Vet Recommendation in Los Angeles

My Rep specialist vet no longer works at the local animal hospital, and they don't plan on replacing her. Anyone have a recommendation for a good vet in the LA area? I'm in the SFV so a vet in the valley would be preferable.

Studio City Animal Hospital is the place where I had both of my turtles treated, RI and one amputation. Call to ask about if they still do reptiles. I think it was like $35 maybe more just to see the vet with a reptile.

Haha they are the best. That's where I usually take my pets, used to see Dr. Franco but I guess she's moved out of state. They said they'd still see her, but I was a little nervous.

The appointment is later this week but it's with Dr. Flanington (?), I've never seen him/her before. Will let you know how the experience goes.

Hey- how do you guys normally transport your turtle to the vet? I usually end up stealing one of those cardboard boxes from my work that are designed for packing up your cubicle (has handles and a top) and stick her in there with a towel. These days she's getting big and knocks the lid off and climbs out if I don't monitor her.

I usually just use a large plastic tub from the 99 cent store...wrap her in a towel and put her in. She usually gets out by the time im therere though.

That's basically the same as the box, maybe i'll invest in a 99 cent tub.

For the vet visit:
They raised their exam price: $65 for Exotics
Dr. Flanigan: He seemed uncomfortable around the turtle. He yanked at her leg repeatedly in an attempt to get her to come out of her shell to no avail. Then he percribed oral antibiotics for 3 weeks to treat shell rot? I asked for silvadene and he said it wouldn't do any good because she'd have to stay out of the water. That's when I said dry docking her was no problem, but he insisted on not percribing it to her. The only thing he suggested is what i'm already doing, washing her with Nolvasan solutuion.

Do anitbiotics treat shell rot? She's got some white pits in her shell because of some difficulty shedding last time so until they lifted there was some festering of nasty water under there. I have another thread on it- will find the link.

I will not be taking her back to Studio City Animal Hospital unless they get someone else that specializes in herps.

How did you come to the conclusion that she has shell rot?

He confirmed that she did have minor shell rot, there are lots of little white pits on her shell after she shed her scrutes. Could that be a symptom of something else?

Hmmm....Maybe it's time to find another vet.

For sure.. plus she's too smart and has figured out that she hates the oral antibiotics. I've been giving them to her every day before dinner, and the last two days she spit it out after i gave it to her. Also she gets like furiously pissed at me when I pick her up now because she expects me to try to give her the medicine and snaps at me. I got bit yesterday for petting her head.

Yeah it sucked... Now she's resorting to the old "I'm not opening my mouth" trick. I feel like I'm dealing with a child. LOL

Any ideas on how to secretly give her the meds? I thought if I had a syringe, I could inject a blue berry and give her a "treat". But I only have the kind with out needles.
