About 2 weeks ago I posted "lost". My 2 year old Myrtle escaped my flower bed. We searched every day early morning and every night nothing. Myrtle not only escaped from the fenced in flower bed but proceeded to escape from the completely fenced in back yard.

We are in the process of building a 1,000 gal pond with fencing but we have learned by our huge loss.

The pond will be encased in the smallest of chicken wire 3 feet above ground and 2 feet below with netting. The fencing itself will be secured to small metal poles. Our plan now, also includes taking the edger going around the yard fencing and placing the same chicken wire on the inside of the current fence securing it with plastic ties.

We also considered the turkey hawks taking her. Myrtle was about 5 inches but because of the 4 dogs the hawks usually stay away.

Considering this, the area we dug the pond from was a dry island and held many many large plants/grasses and 2 small trees. there will be enough coverage I wont even be able to find them! I say them because my boss, knowing how sad I was rescued an abandoned 7 inch RES from the pet store. Now Moose will have someone to share the pond with. I will send pictures when we are complete, in a couple weeks.

I let Myrtle down but I hope i can make it up by taking better care of the other animals I am responsible for.

Welcome Gamura :)

It sounds like you're doing all you can to keep your turts safe. I'm sorry you never found Myrtle. :( But I'm glad Gamura is going to have what sounds like a very good home. :)

That is wonderful that you're preparing such a good home for your turtles. Especially Gamera. Life is very precarious for turtles that have been abandoned but it sounds like Gamera is one of the lucky ones.

You never know about turtles. Myrtle may show up someday.
