Yes, I tried them earlier, no luck. I have been periodically dropping in some Reptotreat.

In other news, the white I mentioned on it's shell seems to be going away or dissolving or something, I keep seeing less and less of it.

It could have been just because they were in such little water.

I'm still a bit worried about the water temperature being too hot or too cold with this lamp and reflection rig I have set up. The water is warmer than room temperature but not uncomfortably hot, at least for me. Should I let it cool off a little bit? Then I'm afraid it might not be hot enough and then too cold.

I would recommend getting one of the thermometers that are a dollar or two to be safe. Turtle water is generally cooler to us because our body temp is 20 degrees warmer.

I'm going to get one tomorrow, but I'm worried about what the temperature is right now.

OK. Right now just leave the light on for heat. It's better to keep him warm than to turn it off overnight....keep it quiet around the tank and try to offer him food periodically.....Many of the people on this forum had turtles "dropped" on us and didn't have a clue how to care for them.....Your thread already has over 100 hits so there are alot of people pulling for you and your little Christmas turtle....don't give up!

Some live food (an earthworm or pieces of one) or something smelly (bits of tuna or sardines packed in water) often work to whet the appetite.

Since he's so small, until you get a submersible water heater (if you do), having the water level a bit deeper than the width of the shell would make it easier to heat with lighting and still be enough for the turtle to right himself if he were to tip over.

The shell in the first pic looks dried out (I'm assuming it's the white area you're concerned about), most likely from poor care.

i dont know if this will apply to your turtle but when i first got my turtles they wouldnt eat for me. i found out they waited untill i left the room to eat so try putting pellets in and leaving the room for a half hour or so and see what turns up they may just be bashful.
