She looks like a rather fat lady to me (beautiful green eyes, though). :)

rocket_pilot, has she shown signs of wanting to lay eggs? If you felt very gently with your index finger the area in front of her hind legs, do you feel anything like grapes (would be eggs).

But back to the inflammed areas---when I see the word inflammed, I think of red areas (often with swelling), and the only reddish/orangy areas I see are on the back foot, the front leg where it bends, and perhaps a little on the neck (but this could just be the pic). Is that what you're talking about?

She looks bigger than 4 inches, and quite overweight. Have you noticed any agression from the other turtle? The reddish areas I mentioned look like she's been rubbed or perhaps nipped at.

Are you guys talking about the bulge around the back legs? Sheba has the same type of bulge, however, when I poke at the bulge it is soft. If your female is retaining eggs, you should be able to feel the eggs. Gently poke your finger into the fleshy bulging area and see if you can feel eggs inside of her. If all you feel is just softness, then there are no eggs. If you feel anything harder inside, then there are eggs.

The other question I can ask is if your turtle was showing signs of digging digging, digging with her hind legs. Have you observed any frantic behavior where she is trying to escape her tank?
