You might wanna keep a very very close eye on the two turtles, just because the chances are that the big one could be bulling the smaller one. Sense the little one freaks out, maybe you could try to remove the bigger one? I know i have to take extra time to feed my turtles, one on the dock and one in the front of the tank, if not Ashley will take the food. She's only .2" bigger or so.

I don't know how big your new turt is, but if it were me I'd keep them separate. Not only could there be bullying for the food, but the larger of the two could hurt the small one. I'd also take Flowers out when I feed, even if you feed both in the tank. Give the new one a chance to eat on it's own.

That being said, there is a quarantine period of 90 days that is recommended for new turts. This is to ensure that your healthy turt and set up aren't endangered by a possibly sick turtle. Turts are well known to carry disease and sickness for a period of time and not show any symptoms.

Good Luck with your new little feller!

How big is the baby? If there's a large difference between the two, giving the smaller one his own set-up until he's closer to the size of the larger one would be better. If you insist on keeping them together (a quarantine period would have been good), let the smaller one eat in familiar territory (the tank) and take the larger one out and feed him in a separate container.

mkeric1,It isnt a good idea to have a bigger turtle share a habitat with a smaller turtle especially a baby turtle. The bigger turtle can easily hurt or kill the baby turtle, and i am sure you wouldnt want something like that to happen right? Maybe since you just recently got the baby turtle he or she is still adapting to the new surroundings. That should explain alot.they may get along fine now but you arent going to watch them 24/7 now are you? While you are away something can happen to the baby.I am not telling you to get rid of the baby red ear slider or anything, but maybe the baby would be more happy and comfortable in his own tank by himself.

You could buy regular Reptomin and break up the pieces into smaller ones. Zoo-Med makes micro pellets for small turtles as well.
