Urgent Care :: turtle is floating, won't eat and keeps his eyes closed

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? 55 gallons
Is the tank near a window? No

This morning when I woke up I saw my turtle sleeping on the top of his tank which he doesn't normally do. I noticed he didn't wake up when I turned on his lights like he usually does and didn't seem interested in the pellets I tried feeding him. When I touched him lightly he would open one eye but would still be fairly lethargic. When I got back from my first class today he was on his basking ramp with his eyes closed and didn't notice when I came into the room and didn't respond at all when I touched him. I have just raised the water temps to around 80 degrees and the basking temps a bit more, too. Is there anything else I should be doing, and when should I consider taking him to a Herp Vet?

It wouldn't hurt to schedule an appt with a herp vet. Bumping up the temp was good, and everything else seems like it is as it should be. Lathargy isn't a good sign though, especially if he was once active. Are there any other signs of sickness? Open mouth breathing, mucus, swollen eyes, red eyes, etc?

I haven't noticed any of those yet. He seems a little more active now but definitely not normal. He is normally a very skittish turtle and will jump off his basking platform as soon as I enter the room. Right now he just kind of sits on the ramp up to it and swims away slowly if I come close.

Sounds like he may be getting sick. I would get him to a herp vet as soon as you can.

You should be considering taking to a herp vet now, find one, and take him to be seen ASAP.

He has improved a lot, still a little lethargic, but he is swimming around a lot more now. I'm taking him to the herp vet tomorrow anyway, though.

The vet says he might have been developing an RI but that he seems to be just fine now. So yay!

He said that raising the water temp was good and he thinks whatever it was was head off by that and that an antibiotic wouldn't be necessary.
