Urgent Care :: red bloodyish nose

Little Guy seems to have blood in his nostrils. it appears red. What could this be from. He's the one with white stuff on his shell. He lives in the same conditions as my other turtle and he seems find. Little Guy enjoys basking and eating. He also likes to swim back and forth the tank (20 gal). he has a UVB light, filter, etc. Maybe he bumped his nose? sometimes when someone walks by he might get scared and runs off the platform. could that be the cause?

Have you by chance fed carrots or another red or orange food? Sometimes their lips and nose area turn colors to match what they have eaten. If not, can you post a pic?

Are there any other symptoms? No matter how hard my RES swam into the side of the tank, there was never an instance of blood.

I've never seen a turtle's lips or nose turn the color of the food they've eaten...

How does the turtle's nose look now? Is the inside red or is there actually red liquid coming out?

Marisa, next time I feed carrots, I'll see if I can get some pictures. They look like they are wearing orange lipstick. It's hilarious. I remember someone else posting about this awhile back.

I remember that happend to my turtle when he was a hatchling. I thought his nose was bleeding too, but I wiped it off, and it never came back. *shrug* Strange!

I tried to get a picture, but by the time I found a camera that would take that close of a shot, he no longer has that problem. His nose seems normal again. So strange. Maybe it was was Missibsu thought. Though I don't remember feeding him anything like that. He still has the white shell covering. When it sheds he is green under it, but the new part eventually turns white as well. it doesn't smell and is not soft. doesn't come off if I scratch at it with my nail or a toothbrush. he seems perfectly content as well.

What is the temp of your water? If the water is too warm, it can lead to excessive shedding.

the water is 76 right now, it fluctuates a little bit but probably never over 80. the other turtle doesn't have the same problem with his shell
