The is a bulge on my RES tail, I merely at first thought it was because it was a male and that it was coming into maturity but now it appears it's bulging a little too big and that it could be retaining waste or something. I'm not sure as I've never had a turtle before, but does this just sound like a minor condition or should I watch and see if I need to take him to the vet?

At least I *hope* it's a male from the looks of things.

Do you have a picure? Male turts have larger tails than females too.

A photo would help a lot. If it is an impaction (retaining waste) it's something that needs to be taken care of by a vet.

Yes, do post a pic. It could even be an abcess in the area.
