once i took skipper to the vet in the winter because she wasn't eating(it turns out the water was a little cold), and she said skipper had shell rot. so itook her home and did treatments for a few months twice a day. this spring and summer were soooo busy, i didn't have time to do treatments AT ALL!!! :msgreen: i recently saw a pic of a turtle with SEVERE shell rot and i got scared into doing treatments again. so i picked her up and did the treatment, all the while she bit anything close to her head! she nearly got my thumb! she used to be kinda 'sweet' and not bite so much. she is also frantic to get out of her dry dock bin, she used to be calm! is she more agressive because of lack of handling or pain? how can i make her 'sweet' again?

Shell rot isn't something that you can sit on. Aggressive ailments normally require aggressive treatments. I would suggest you have the vet re-evaluate. Are you sure this is shell-rot and not fungus?

shell rot means any infection in the shell. shell rot can be fungus.

I'd have to disagree with you on that.

You need to finish your course of treatment with the silver sulfadiazine. You may need your vet to take another look at the turtle, it's possible to have both shell rot (caused by bacteria) and fungus (caused by fungus) at the same time. Both can kill.

If your turtle want to bite your fingers, I find it helpful to toss a towel or an old shirt over their head. They will attack the towel so you can complete the application of medicine.

What type of filter do you have on the tank?
