I have 2 RES. They are just over 2 years old and I have had them since tiny babies. We just moved from an apartment to a house and I haven't been paying vey good attention to my turtles for the last week. I just noticed an open sore on the back right foot of one of the turtles. The sore can be no older than 6 days(I checked them before we moved) What should I do. I turned the water temp up a few degrees... but other than that I'm lost! Help please!!
Make sure you have and keep really clean water. There are ointments that you can put on them, but I don't know what for sure. Any idea where the sore came from? How where they transported when you moved them?
What is the color of the sore? Could the sore be an injury caused from your other turtle or during the move? I would carefully check both turtles for other marks. As Missi says, keep the water very clean. If it does not start healing right away or if it becomes worse (or other symptoms develop), then I would see a vet ASAP.
I have checked them both and seperated them. I noticed the male(the non injured one) picking at the injured ones foot . Today it looks better, its no longer pink and open. I cleaned the tank very well last night before I put her back in soooo... I'm hoping for the best and calling the vet today..
