I don't think her basking habits and staying in the water all night are
affecting her ability to submerge...Have you asked your vet about it? I would...Eating well yet not growing could be due to a number of things, even parasites. She could have a chronic condition related to the RI. It really would be good to check her out with the vet...

Larry's shell length (without the curve) was nearly 3 inches in December and now in February it's about 5 inches? If so, he's growing too fast... It wounds like they're needing a bigger tank/container...

i know hes growing too fast and have downed his food intake, he gets fed pellets in the morning, about half the size of his head, minus what melissa eats before he knows hes fed, and he isnt stealing anything from her, because like i said shes a little vacuum and is almost always finished before he comes up to eat. they also get romaine, carrots, or other veggies once a day. they get a few shrimp maybe once a month and hes got a cuttlebone to munch on as well. and he is at about 5 inches, and does not like being measured...nor being removed from his tank, you can hear him hiss from across the room. i may have underestimated in november, but yes he is definitely growing too fast, considering i got him as a milk cap sized baby in august. on the plus side his shell is smooth and shiny, no soft spots or pyramiding, and firm underneath. and hes definitely feisty and i will never put my fingers anywhere near his mouth...

i did ask the vet about the bobbing around last time i had her in(in november with the ri) and he, like steve said
steve wrote:I would think his/her weight and maybe even metabolism are still recovering and may impair swimming ability.
i am going to get them both in to the vet soon, for general check ups, possible worming, etc.

her shell is firm on top and underneath, the scutes are a bit sunken though, and her underside is a bit soft in the middle. she is getting calcium, the reptomin baby has extra calcium plus the cuttlebone and powdered cuttlebone that i add to their water. but its definitely time for another vet trip
that'll make larry happy, he'll get to hiss to the vet how i torture him with diet and measure him and god forbid come near the tank...and melissa already hates him, she knows who her antibiotics came from

i am looking for a larger tank, right now they're still in the 50 gal. rubbermaid tub

i lost her today
i think she drowned. yesterday when i came home from school, she was on her back in the water, and since she cant sink, she couldnt flip back over. she was struggling and trying to keep her head up, i flipped her over and put her back on her dock, and she just laid there. she moved a little bit to get into the warmest part of the dock, then just laid there. my boyfriend noticed her just floating in the water today, not moving, when he went to feed them this morning. shes in a better place where she isnt sick and miserable anymore now
