I have a male RES, he's been in a 55 gallon tank for almost two years now and I got him around 4 years ago years ago. I measured him today and he was 5 inches, and I read that that males can get to 6 inches within a few years and max out at around 8-9 inches. This has me very worried. Is it normal for a male RES to be 5 inches long at 4-5 years of age?

Sounds normal. 8-9" would be a max.

I agree with Steve and DB4L, my male slider is 3 yrs old, almost 4 yrs old. He grew slowly(have had him since a hatchling). My turtle is now 5 in. and seems to have stopped growing or at least slowed way down from an already slow growth. I measure him monthly to monitor growth. Males can be rather small compared to females.
