Hi, I have 3 one year old turtles and last week I've noticed all of them have swollen eyes. I've search and read lots and lots of info online and think it's due to bacterial infections.
In the beginning, they have swollen eyes, closed, and their eyelids looks swollen with some watery discharge coming out of the eye. I brought the ZooMed Reptisafe )which states it would remove Chloramines and Chlorie, Detoxifies Nitrites and Remove Toxic Ammonia and put it in the tank water) and place 2 drops of ZooMed Repti Turtle Eye Drop to each eye daily.
After about 2 days, they seem to able to open their eyes only when I take them out of the water, not widely though, but opens enough to see food in front of them and eat. Since their condition hasn't improved with 3 days of ZooMed eye drops, took them to the herp vet last night, gave me these medication eye drops made by Falcon called "neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Dexamethasone Opphtalmic Suspension Sterile" (with steroids noted on the bottle) and asked me to put one drop into each eye 4 times a day. I've put it in 3 times so far, and noticed that instead of swollen eyes, now I see a big pus and couldn't really see the eyelid. I'm really worried....is the medication appropriate? Their condition looks the same to me, hasnt' imporve yet...should I wait for another day or two before bringing them to another vet?
Setting:
in a big storage box, with UVB light with timer, 12 hours/day, eats Repti sticks every other day and boiled carrots (once a month) , weighs 1.1 oz (all 3 of them), current temp is at 85 degrees F. Basking temp is the same cuz I only have one clamp of UVB light set up....
Please feel free to give me any advice....would the pus go away if I continue with the medicine?

Using a water conditioner is not sufficient to maintain water quality and a reputable filter would help. I'm not sure about the meds you were given but you should ask your vet about side effects/symptoms. If you think your turtles are getting worse, then you should raise this concern.

How many gallons in the storage box? You should get a water heater because the basking light is not an appropriate or efficient means to heat the tank water.

my turtle had closed eyes and i took it to the vet and she gave me an ointment. She said that its hard to get eye drops to work if they wont open their eyes. The ointment will soak through the lid. It is called vetrachloracin. Maybe you could try something like that. Ive only been using it for 1 day or so, but if you're really interested i can let you know if it works.

Am I reading this correctly? Your turtles are one year old and each weighs only 1.1 oz?

For the eyes, how big is this storage box (gallons) and how often do you change the water? A bacterial infection is almost inevitable if they're living in dirty water...

If you took them to a herp vet, I'd try the medication for a bit. It may take a little time for it to work. But if you're still seeing the mucus after a few days, it would be good to contact the vet and see if you should be continuing the treatment.
