Hello, I have a Red Ear Slider who has not eaten a single food stick for last 2-3 days, i am worried sick that he's not like that, he usually eats too much.

Here's a pic of my turtle so you can see his size:

I brought this turtle home in April 2011, 5th April to be exact.

I usually keep him in an aquarium box, and the water is a little cold, I don't use a thermometer to know the temperature of the water. I dont use a water heater and the water comes from Aqua guard which is RO and UV protected. I don't use any kind of filtration, i just clean the box and change the water every 2-3 days.

my turtle guy told me and gave me food sticks, it's from a company called "TAIYO" and the ingredients are white fish meal, Shrimp meal, wheat flour, corn meal, yeast, enzyme, calcium, magnesium, blotin, vitamin A C E, and other trace elements.

My turle just stopped eating suddenly so i thought, why not give him some sunlight but still it doesn't work and he just keeps sleeping/resting in his place and just doesn't eat a single food stick.

here's the food bottle:

Do i need to change his diet, or something else, any solution or any suggestion would be helpful, hoping to hear from you soon!

Hi, I would carefully monitor water temperatures, around 75F is fine for older turtles, though you can increase it to 80F if you think they are ill. Different foods or treats can always be tried, here are some additional tips: http://www.redearslider.com/entice_eating.html

If possible, you can get a cheap thermometer for 1 or 2 dollars.
RES usually lose their appetite in cooler water (74 +/- degrees or lower), thus the reason why we ask about water temp.
The Aqua guard uses UV to purify the water; turtles need to sit under UVB (either sunshine or a UVB lamp)
and they need a warm area to dry their shells. Again, either in the sunshine or under a basking light (a household light bulb works)
Cleaning the water every few days is OK, but you need to try and keep the "new" water the same temp as the "old" water. Otherwise, they get all stressed out. Kind of like someone dunking us in a cold swimming pool or lake, or jumping in a hot tub; it's shocking.
and...
it's OK if they don't eat for a day or two. If you switch food in the middle of this, they may not like the new food and won't eat it. There are some pellets my turtle won't touch even if she is starving.

I recommend checking out the main site, learning about lighting, heat, food, water temp, etc.
I am sure it will put you mind at ease once you see all the factors that contribute to a turtles behavior.

Any update? I'd try some live foods like minnows and earthworms. Are his eyes open?
