Hi, I have a question... Last night I noticed that my two turtles (male red ear slider and female African Sideneck) were positioned funny. The female was laying on the bottom with her face in the rocks and her tail end floating while the male was floating head out of the water but attached to the female's tail. So, I concluded that they were mating. Well, after a 1/2 hour they were still stuck together. it seems that the female's cloaca was opened and she had stuck herself inside the male's cloaca and wasn't letting go. So, I took them out of the water and on the floor they were still stuck together. So, I figured the female would relax her muscles and let the male go when she was through. So, I put them back into the tank. Well, now it is the next day, about 12hrs later, and they are still stuck together... What do I do ??? will they ever release from one another ??
Please help...

Why are you keeping these two turtles together? Sidenecks should be with others of their own species, not a RES...

If they're still in the same position, I'd call a herp vet, tell him the problem and find out what should be done.

That is definatly wierd and they could be cross-breeding but im not a turtle expert so dont take my advice seriously. Mating however dosnt take half a day so therefore i doubt its mating.
