Urgent Care :: What is this on the shell of my slider?

In the picture you see a spot just right of the turtles head. What is that spot.

I had just purchased two red eared slider from this kid at my school. He said that he cured them from shell rot. The turtles have been eating every day, they bask every day, and they are very active. When i bought that turtle it had that spot, should i be concerned about that spot? Please post back and help me with my little problem. The turtle are currently living in a forty gallon breeder. I have a basking rock and i feed them calcium enriched turtle pellets. But what is that spot on the turtles back? Thanks for your help!

Is that spot on the shell an early sigh of shell rot?

I think so. I'd dry dock and treat with abit of silver sulfadiazine to the area.

Wait what? Should i rub rubbing alcohol on the infected area?

No rubbing alcohol.

If you want to disinfect the area before the medication, try diluted hibiclens or betadine.
