I was away this morning and while I was gone my turtle tank's heater had broken and gave my turtle a shock. I don't know how long he was in the tank before my brother noticed tht Mikey(my turtle) isn't moving at all! He freaked out and quickly reached into his tank to grab him and he got a shock as well.. He hadn't noticed the broken heater. So he put him in a separate tub after switching off the heater but he wasn't moving for like 2 hours or so.. When I got back home my parents said he had regained consciousness but did nothing. I lifted him out of the water and I could feel he was weak and shocked(literally). But in a while his movement and behaviour got back to normal but he didn't eat anything. That is the only abnormal thing tht has happened. Generally he eats no matter what time i feed him but he hasn't eaten anything. I'll try and feed him again tmrw morning and hopefully he'll eat up.. The only thing I'm worried about is whether he's ok and should i watch out for anything. I mean he looks and acts fine but might there be any problem internally?!

It sounds like he's very stressed and I think that's understandable. Very glad your brother and turtle are OK. I would just keep an eye on everything, I would think any injuries would be pretty apparent. What kind of heater broke? And all electrical equipment used for the tank really needs to connected to a GFCI outlet.

It's so ironic tht I had read tht article abt the GFCI outlets just the night before.http://iw.suntekstore.com/office_cache/259/14000544/iw1321251504_image.jpg This is the kind of heater i had. He still hasn't eaten anything yet btw, although he's acting pretty normal.

Extremely Glad he's OK.
Curious. Did you have a GFCI or no?
Like you, I had also just read the article and installed a GFCI. Then my lights fell in the water and exploded.
If you don't have one, I do recommend it. Close calls on two forum members in two days?
Someone is trying to tell us all something.
PS - give your brother a big, big hug for being brave and saving Mikey

No i did not have GFCI :( yes I'll get one soon. Plus the temperature here is warm anyway so I won't be setting up a heater soon. Yes he's very brave and thoughtful and I love him for that. :)

And what happened to your tank when the lights fell in? I hope everything is fine.

The light bulbs exploded - presumably from the heat - Penelope got scared and I had to vacuum the tank. Other than that, no problems at all = Whew!
