Urgent Care :: Water temperature too hot?

I got my RES in February when it was cooler out and I have a water heater to warm it up a bit. Now it's April, and today it got up to about 86 degrees. On regular days, the temp. sits at 79 degrees. My water temperature is at 85-86 degrees without the heater because I turned it off due to the warmer weather, and I'm wondering if that is too hot for my turtle.

That is pretty warm, is this indoors? How much water is in the tank? What kind of thermometer are you using?

Yes, it's indoors. I have a ten gallon tank to start out with, my turtle is still really small. There's a couple gallons in it, my turtle is happy with the level and the temp though.

86-86 F is a little warm. does your turtle still bask?

...going on a limb, but could you use the heater to cool the water? (turning the heater setting to 75-78 F)

A small tank will heat up/cool down pretty quickly, which is something you don't want. Is there a room at your place that you can control the temperature?

Yes, my turtle still basks. He doesn't seem to mind it. There's a couple of cooler rooms, but not enough outlets in the room for the light, heater, and filter though. Plus I like having the tank where he can get used to being around and seeing people.
