The scutes that he's shedding are thin and normal. So it's unlikely fungus or bacteria. By texture... I mean rough. I asked if it were recessed, which mean it could be some bone showing through, but also unlikely. Update pics could be helpful.

My turtle had something like that awhile ago, I can't remember what it was called but I cleaned out, and removed the lid from his tank. Humidity can cause that, I believe, so if your turtle's tank has a cover or if you keep the door closed, reverse that. Just anything to remove humidity. Good luck, I hope Squirty feels better soon!!

If you still have them, take a look at the underside of the shed skutes. I found some interesting signs of a shell problem (totally different than what you are experiencing) that I would have never seen while they were still wet. It may help you decipher if the white was under / between the skutes or appeared afterwards.t
