Hi, I've got a red ear slider that's getting sick. I can't honestly afford to take him to a vet, and I've been tearing my hair out all day trying to find a shelter that takes exotics where I live -

I'm in the Indianapolis, Indiana area. - Turtle stopped eating recently(Which he's done before, never shown signs of ill health, just resumed the next week) and I've been peeking in on him but he hates being handled so I hadn't pulled him out and looked him over. However today I noticed him swimming upside down into the corner - which is obviously not normal behavior. Upon close inspection of him I noticed he has a discolored portion on the side of his body right below one of his arms on the shell. I've no idea what it is and I'm kind of freaking.

I've had him two years and never had any issues. I'd love to find somewhere that can take him and give him the care and treatment he needs. And to elaborate: I've called several places I found online but no one wants to take an exotic that I can find. I even tried calling IVEC to see if they could tell me anywhere.

Hi, sorry to hear about your troubles. If the turtle cannot swim properly, you will need to take him out of the tank. Do not be afraid to handle him if you need to inspect him but be extra careful incase he is aggressive.

How big is he? What are the water temps? Can you post pics of the discolored area?
