Urgent Care :: Tail bitten off.

I'd continue the Neosporin until I saw definite signs of healing (I'd put some on in the evening and just keep her out of the tank overnight in an escape-proof container with a cloth she could burrow under).

As for putting her back in the tank, I'd think twice. The other one is likely to go for the very area that's healed as well as other parts of the body (like the back of the neck). I have two male painteds, one of which started bullying and biting the other years ago. The one that was bullied lost part of his tail, most of his nails on one hand and had a nasty bite mark on his neck. They simply cannot be put together---even in a 300-gallon stock tank that I tried them in this past summer. They live in a 150-gallon stock tank that is divided down the middle and spend a fair amount of time swimming back and forth trying to get at each other (especially the bully).

ok thank you for all your advice I have kept them seperated and do put her in a bucket at night with neosporing on her tail and she will be in water during the day

Turtles tail

One of my turtles has bitten the other turtles tail. As you can see in the photo attached, it now appears like there are two tails: one with the skin and one with his flesh. The turtle is not eating and I have separated them already. Please help! I am afraid he is going to die!

It's possible he was bitten when he was fanning (exposing his penis). He needs to see a herp vet ASAP.

So what would they do? What should I do in the mean time... I do not even know where I can find Herp vet. Is there anything I can do in the mean time?

How severe is the injury? Is it swollen, bleeding, etc? How is the area around the cloaca (the opening on the tail)?

Well look at the picture... I cannot tell. All I know is that he is not eating and it isn't sollen... it looks like it is healing. It is no longer bleeding and the cloaca looks like that is healing as well.

How long has it been like that? How long was it bleeding? I cannot tell it's condition from the picture.

In the city, I would look into Avian and exotic center in 568 columbus ave. I do use a vet out in Long Island but I would inquiry the Long Island Turtle Rescue as who they recommend for a prolapse/injury.

With clean hands (preferably sterile gloves, but not everyone has these at their home), lubricate the organ with KY Jelly, and gently attempt to assist the organ back into the turtle. If this fails, as above with the intestinal prolapse, coat the penis with dry, granulated sugar or honey to assist in reducing the swelling. If the penis does not go back in on it's own, you can GENTLY try to assist it back into the vent. If you do not feel comfortable with this, it's not working out or you think there is possibly damage to the prolapsed material, then get the turtle to a qualified vet. Some conditions need some topical medication to assist in returning the prolapse, followed by a suturing which will be removed a few days later. Waiting too long or drastically traumatized organs may require amputation, but this is a very rare case.

For my turtle when the leg got bitten by the smaller turtle and the skin got peel off, i use some of the antibiotic paste that for regular cut (for human) and it work ok, well he recovered and i separate them right away. Don't really know is the paste that working or it just heal itself.

Does he still have a prolapse?
