Hi, I am rehabilitating a wild RES we found on the road. He has crushed sinuses and now he has an RI. The vet just gave us some Baytril and I gave him the first dose just now. I tried to feed him after I gave him the medicine orally. But I notice he wasn't swallowing and then blood started to come in his mouth. I am concerned about what mistakes I have done? Should have I not fed him after I gave him the medicine?

After I noticed the blood in his mouth I stopped the feeding as he was not swallowing.

I also think you need to speak to the vet. Was the baytril mixed with the food?

YOu might get some better info on turtlerescues.com ... they have an excellent yahoo group where you should be able to get fast responses to your question. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Turt ... sland/join

Thanks, I called the vet and he said to just give it to him as a shot instead. I have a question steve: Does it make a difference if the med is mixed with the food? Thanks for all the help!!!!!!!!!!

If it's in pill form, it should be OK. A previous vet told me to break up per dosage and it can be given with food (pellets).
