Urgent Care :: Red ear slider shell condition

I've had this turtle for a year. Got her from a friend that moved away
The water temperature is 76 degrees F. I am using a water heater.
There is currently 20 gallons, Her pond is currently under construction.
Basking temperature is 85 degrees F. The platform seems easy enough to climb on. I made it out of the lid of a small plastic box tanks you give kids and currently using the box to grow aquatic plants to feed the turtle.
Yes there is a UVB and UVA light source.
I feed her ReptoMin. I feed the turtle every other day and she eats it all

I'm not entirely sure if there's anything wrong with the turtle. After seeing a few pictures of red ear sliders, i notice this turtle's shell isn't smooth and looks like it's been damaged. I'm not entirely sure.

Can someone please tell me if there's anything wrong with her and what i can do to help?

i notice recently her shell wasn't smooth, is there something that's causing it? also there are parts of the shell that appear white.

Hi, there are a few layers of retained scutes. It is usually a result of growing too fast or from an irregular diet. Give her a steady and consistent diet and her shell will look much better after a few sheds. As for the white, it does look like the very early stages of fungus, I would try to treat it as quickly as possible. They can spread quickly, and I think a good habitat and basking area are necessary to control it.

i agree with steve the faster you can get the fungal treatment started the faster it will go away. and a few sheds from now with a steady diet and her shell will be good as new.

thank you! I'm going to start her fungal treatment asap and follow a stricter diet. How long do you predict it will take for the scutes to shed?

It's hard to predict when and how long it takes. Just be patient and keep an eye on her progress.
