Hi All,

I noticed today after handling my RES that her pieces of her shell are peeling back. These are NOT transparent. They don't smell, which is good. However, after doing some research this does not sounds like a case of her "growing" it seems like a big problem.

PLESE advise. Obviously I will take her to the vet but I want to make I'm not reading into this too much.

Is it a thin layer (They are not always transparent)? What does it look like on the shell?

How thick are the shed scutes? They're not actually transparent (unless they're extremely thin), but more translucent. The scutes from the plastron especially can have a faint pattern on them from the blotches on the plastron.

If you're really concerned, pics of the scutes and the area of the shell (dry) where they came from would be helpful to see.

OK after further investigation I have noted that it actually is somewhat translucent. And now I think that this might be a normal thing. No smell, she's not acting any different than usual (she's such a bitty) I am having a hard time taking up-close photos of Margaret Thatcher to see where they are coming off but I did manage to get an actual piece that came off and took a photo.

Let me know what yall think
