Urgent Care

my res squirt (we dont know if its a boy or girl, but the cloaca looks like a girl's- however were not 100% sure so we refer to squirt as a "HE") has shell length 3 inches. we just cleaned the tank...and when squirt was swimming up for food something black kept popping in and out of the cloaca. im going to say this bluntly: is that a penis? ._. it looks like the cloaca area has something in it if you know what i mean-i'm trying to think if he ate something black or if it could be a rock (no gravel in teh tank, but sometimes pieces of the rock break off), basking platform, etc. its definitely an irregular shape but im freaking out so much that i cant get a definite descrpition, could anyone describe it to help me determine what that black thing is? if the black thing continues to pop in and out, how can i help squirt? im actually really, really scared

i will answer any questions and do ANYTHING to make sure my turtle doesnt suffer. ive read the fanning section so will do a tupperware/clean water thing but again, im not sure whats going on so i would really appreciate any help. thank you

correction: i am 99% sure our turtle is a girl. the cloaca is definitely not a guy's and the claws are for sure those of a girl.

Can you post a pic of him? There are some pictures of males fanning, I'll try to find 'em.

im pretty sure squirt is a girl. its hard for me to get a picture, but i will keep trying (the black thing only occasionally shows underwater, and when i took squirt out to examine she would not reveal it. her cloaca/tail area did not feel hard but i can tell it has been under distress.) i put squirt in a tupperware with warm water, but in the meantime, what foods have the most fiber? we just got back from vacation and the friend we left her with claims to have stopped feeding her vegetables for the last week

... so to stay positive i would like to make the assumption that its constipation instead of a potential surgery we have to pay for

ok, as a result of hte warm water squirt has just pooped.

but the area still looks under distress...

what foods have the most fiber?

3" is hard to tell the sex, is squirt having difficulty pooping? It doesn't have to come out entirely for fanning either.

we vacationed for thanksgiving week and left squirt with a close friend, who said she didnt feed vegetables the entire week because he/she wouldnt eat them. (usually i leave the veggies in there daily until he loses the stubbornness and eats em)

as for mistaking the black thing as something else (im pretty sure it isnt a penis after looking at the pictures, also the cloaca is definitely not a male's), i am assuming (not to be gross or anything) that part of the stool was sticking out until release... :shock:

still, the cloaca area looks a little bigger than usual and i am worried. im trying to convince myself squirt is only constipated and a little warm water+more fiber will let the rest do its work. i will keep you posted. thank you for your help!

i am currently feeding apple chunks (right below the skin, including the skin), carrots, lettuce, and a afew pellets. hopefully this along with warm water will do the trick, but again i will keep you posted. thanks again!
