Hi guys, I have really bad news. Some fish in the turtle tank have lernaea, that small parasitic worm (actually a crustacean) which gets himself hooked to the finns and gills and quite slowly sucks the living hell out the poor sobs. One of my mosquitofish already passed away. So I'm gettin this Parazin stuff, because there are various treatments but most of them harm bacteria and plants in the tank, unlike this one. What I'd like to know is, should I remove the turtles, in this case my Res and Ybs, from the tank? The treatment is quite long, from a week up to several (if you want to get rid of the parasite's eggs).
Quite a bummer.. what should I do?
Thanks.

I don't know about these specific products, though generally anything safe for fish is safe for RES. However, I personally go out of my way to avoid exposing my turtles to stuff like fish medications and other treatments.

Is there a temporary setup you can use for the fish?

You mean for the turtles? In that case yes, I could put them outside in the yard in an plastic tank. But it's gonna last several days, possibly more, so I'm reluctant. Plus, there are lots of cats roaming around at night.

No for the fish... turtles take priority in the tank. Do you know how your tank got lernaea?

Well, the problem is I can't take out all the fish, they're too small and there is too many in there (including frys). The only viable options are either:
-remove the turtles and move them to an outdoor tank temporarely
-treat the disease with the turtles in the tank
-let all the fish die a horrible slow agonizing death :(

I got lernaea with those stupid mosquitofish! I noticed a male had a worm attached, so i didn't put him in the tank, but the others all looked fine, and even after a month they didn't show any symptom. I guess they had some small larvae or even eggs in theri system. I guess quarantine wouldn't have avoided me the problem either..

I would take out the turtles while the fish are being treated (is this a parasite that can also affect turtles?). I wouldn't put them outside in a plastic tank, though.

I was responding to your comment above, that you "could put them outside in the yard in a plastic tank"...Nothing was said about a kiddy pool...

I agree that a kiddie pool would be better but why do you think it'd be wrong to use a plastic tank?
