Urgent Care :: Help! Found a Red Eared Slider in shipping dock water!

I was working at our shipping dock when I noticed a little turtle head poking out of the sitting water. The water quality is very poor it has been setting for a week with some trash and debris. I've been running a pump but the water is still deep and I have no gear. Should I resecue this little dude since he is far away from a local pond or any other natural water source? Does anyone have any recommendations?

Well, you have two options..

You could keep him. This site has all the knowledge needed for great turtle keeping, however, it is not for the faint of heart. Turtles can live 30+ years and keeping them is very labor intensive and costs a lot of money. If you feel like you're up for the challenge and want a turtley friend, by all means get together a quick setup and eventually move to something bigger and better.

Or, you could give him away. You could release him into the wild, but lots of people frown upon this. You could put him on craigslist or on faunaclassifieds.com for any turtle-owners to be.

Let us know either way. Good show for rescuing him too!

Sound advice Mike, but i will only correct one thing you may have been confused with.
Unless someone just happened to release this turtle at his shipping dock (very unlikely), it's a wild turtle. So it's perfectly fine to release it in the nearest pond that has sliders in it.

This is true, he may have wondered into the dock somehow. If it were me, I would probably release him into a pond where I have seen turtles living.
