Urgent Care :: Serious white patches/spots on the shell

so far i've no experience with fungus, just RI

i have started to feed them with greens, may i know what is the right frequency on greens and pellets to make sure they hv equal diet and nutrion ?tq

sorry my question, how frequent should i feed them with greens, how frequent feed with pellets, if purely feeding greens, they would not hv enuf nutrition ?

haha... think i missed the question as well!

anyway, if it's a hatchling, feed more pellets and calcium rather than greens, as they get older, you can feed them every other day.

you can get the calcium powder and add it to the green itself, but they might avoid it. you may need to coax them to eat it.

on a weekly basis, i will feed them fishes, those cheap one from your LFS, meant for feeding, other times, it's mainly pellets.

The pellets which you bought, does it good ? my pellets are about to finish, thinking of changing it to a better brand.

me & my turtles are doing good, in fact, there's a new addition to the family, a yellow-spotted...

as for your case, the pics are very blur, i can't really make out the image, can you snap a better picture?

first thing to do right now is to separate the 2 first. the injured one should be off water most of the time (water means slower injury time, it's like cutting your skin and put it in water, takes very long time to heal).

keep it dry, soak the RES in water from time to time so that it will still get some water, especially during feeding time.

if you think that your RES' damage is serious, bring it to the vet straight away.

here are 2 vets that i know of that can treat turtles:

thanks for your fast response, the below infor was very helpful, now she is being separated from the rest. Sorry about the picture, i will capture another one, anyway, the "green skin" has peeled off from the leg or perhaps bite off by another terrapin, i could only see "red fresh", she is hardly eating anything, perhaps it's painful, is anything i can apply/spray to make wound dry up until i bring her to visit a vet ?

wow...that'll be a bit serious, i think it's better that you keep the 2 separate from now one, once this happens, it can happen again...
even mine does it, but it's mainly because of food fighting and one of it will bite the other accidentally.

for the moment, main thing is to ward of infection, i suggest that you bring it to a vet ASAP, rather than try to applying anything from making it worse.

give it enough air circulation and warmth (and also water to cool off if necessary. maybe a rectangular plastic container with some water for it to eat and cool off a bit and an easy to climb area for it to stay dry. make sure the water is a bit warm too.

take note of the following:
1. has it been moving as actively as before, or completely slowed down?
2. does it swim now? if it does, does it use/move the wounded area?

other suggestion:
1. for food, you can try to keep the wounded area off the water during feeding time, hold and submerge the head portion into water and see whether it wants to eat or not
2. monitor the wounded area closely for any signs of trouble, like the redness getting more red
3. tap to the spot to keep it dry, it'll help the healing process
4. betadine/flammazine will be the choice for antiseptic, dry the turtle, clean the wound, and apply solution daily. keep the area covered if possible.
5. make sure you cover the injured turtle so that flies cannot get in. once their lay their egg, then more trouble!

also, remember to tell the vet what you have done, it's like you're seeing the doctor yourself yea!

"maybe a rectangular plastic container with some water for it to eat and cool off a bit and an easy to climb area for it to stay dry" - now she is a plastic container with small bridge for her to clamp up. BTW, does it necessary to put another small container at plastic container fill up with water, does turtle has the habbit to drink the water that way ?

no need to have extra container, as long as the current container has enough water covering the whole head is good enough, but do provide a bigger and wider area for it to dry off completely.this is especially so if you can get the antiseptic, keep the turtle dry after application, let it stay that way for some time before getting it into water again.

it's better then to have another dry plastic container. monitor the temperature to make sure that it's warmth enough for them. you should know the basking temperature by now.

she may not be eating now due to "shock" or "stress" or "pain", once she starts to feel better, then she might eat better. keep on monitoring, this doesn't mean that she's dying.

and if she's using 3 legs to walk, it's very possible that the wounded leg is in pain. if possible, get to the vet ASAP.

yes, you can get betadine from any pharmacy, any brand will do.

as for your question, you can soak her like 30 minutes twice a day in warm water.

main thing is to keep her dry (for few hours daily) and warm. do the treatment daily and hopefully she'll be better in a few week's time.
