Urgent Care :: Help please!!! (He's okay now)

I found my turtle with his head up the intake of his filter.
I don't know how long he was like this. He won't move and no water came out when I did what the site suggested for drowning. He opens and closes his eyes, but otherwise he won't move. help!

ok, he moved a bit when i warmed him up with a heat lamp. but he still won't really respond when touched

If he's showing signs of responding that's good. I'd keep him warm. Is there any water coming from his mouth?

There isn't any more water coming out. He even opened his mouth on his own while I had him tilted head down and none came out. He's responding a bit more.

Does he open his eyes? Is he becoming more alert? If so, that's a positive sign. If you think there's more water in him, you might tilt him again and gently press his hind legs in to push more out. If not, leave him alone and give him time to gradually recover.

He does open his eyes. He also moves around when I pick him up or poke at him. But if I don't he puts his head down and closes his eyes. Although if I come near he opens them again. I have him in a sunny spot with a heat lamp so his body isn't cold any more. So you think he'll be okay? How can I tell if he caught pneumonia?

He's moving around now without me touching or coming near him. Is it safe to put him back in the water? I turned off the offending filter of course.

He was already in by the time I saw your post.

He's swimming just fine and has been active. Although when he first went into the water he seemed to panic and just let himself float up and stayed at the surface for a bit. Then he explored his tank and went to perch in one of his usual spots. It has been several hours and he is still doing well. I'll keep watch for any signs of pneumonia.

This morning he is doing fine. Although I got a scare because he wasn't moving at first. Turns out he was just asleep.

I'm just happy he's okay now. He's more skittish now then before, but it reminds me of when I first got him. So he'll probably calm down in a while. He's eating and swimming around healthily. No tilting whatsoever.

For anyone still reading, Bolt is not the same as ever. He's eating and meeting me when I come in.
