thats really what needs to happen, make him take it to the vet but if he just wont, do the above stuff, maybe someone else will come along and give you some more suggestions but that is what I have always heard was treatment for shell rot. Know that they shed pieces of shell and that could be what you see on the top but the bottom definitely looks like shell rot to me.
