Urgent Care :: RES Wound to Face

I have two turtles in a 120g tank ... they are roughly 7yrs old and 4yrs old. They have gotten along fine for the last 2yrs, but this week they have been fighting on and off ... the larger taking bites at the smaller ones face. His nose area is all raw skin now.

I have never had any issues with my turtles and am new to how to treat injuries. What should I do. I have already separated them and keep the injured one out letting him roam the house and have a basking area set up (outside the tank). He doesnt appear in pain or his breathing inhibited. He seems to prefer to be out of water, and the wound look better when he is.

Any help greatly appreciated

you have to separate them before one of them gets killed.

They are already separated ... I wanted to know what would be the best thing to help fix the raw skin on his face around his nose.

And I am already looking at getting him his own 120g tank (what all my turtles live in). I am aware that aggression sometimes sets in and doesnt go away and that one will need its own tank. But iin all my years of owning turtles, nearly twenty, I have never had a sickness or injury and dont know what is best to use or if i should just keep it dry.

For the raw skin on his face I would recommend using neosporin for the wound then to dry dock him. This may also help- http://www.redearslider.com/physical_conditions.html

I also think a 120gal is too small for 2 adult res and that may have been the reason of the aggression. keep in mind the rule of thumb is 10 gallons per every inch of the turtles shell. So a 120 tank like you said would be perfect for one res

And blackforces i can bother but think you didn't read the original post since he said he already separated the two.

Just an update, his nose is all better after dry docking. He went to a vet last week who said he will be fine and his now pink nose will be green again before long.

i am very glad it worked out. You seem to be a turtle owner who will go to great lengths for ur little guys.
