I had a RES and it only lived for about four months. It was the runt of the group and believed it also had RI. However, the "leader of the pack" was very aggressive and is very healthy. Her aggression probably enabled her to survive. She is about eight inches and much calmer now. She gets along very well with the male RES.

I am sorry for your loss and I hope you've relaxed by now. It is very important to understand that living being are sensitive to specific environments so it shouldn't be surprising that they might not survive the first few weeks.

I suggest you prepare their environment first for next time and only then put them in there. Also, these two summed it up:

You shouldn't beat yourself up. Very small turtles die sometimes for no reason at all. They're like human babies, fragile and with a weak immune system.

I had two turtles of less than 2 inches about half a year ago and they both died at short intervals of each other. It was devastating, but I slowly got over their death, and my new turtle Charlie sure helped the process along.

Sorry for your loss. It happens. I've rescued over 175 turtles to date at my rescue and I've held a few for their last moments. I do what I can, but you can't save them all. I just give them all the love they want in their dieing moments and let them know everythings going to be ok.
