I'm sorry, but I fail to see how a salt water bath would help an RI case.

Salt water baths are more for shell infections, aren't they?

I heard that epsom salts in warm water help with respiratory problems, even in humans. They probably can't cure RI but it makes the turtle feel more comfortable and helps him breathe better.

TurtleLover_S&B: thank you for the well wishes for Charlotte!! I hope she recovers!! How are old are Squirt and Bubbles?

racebaby: I have found the warmth has helped her get her appetite back and encourage her to bask more. I do not have a UV light at the moment, but will look into it.

Awww Tucker and Mickey! What cute names! I'm sure they will be very lucky on Christmas morning lol. I can imagine they are spoiled rotten :)

I'll definitely keep you up to date on Charlotte as hopefully, she will continue to improve..

You're welcome! I no longer have my turtles because I just did not have time for them anymore. I decided to give them away. I don't know exxactly how old they are, I got them when they were about the size of a quarter and kept them 'til they were about 2 1/2 inches. I had them for a little over a year, and when I got them I'm pretty sure they were hatchlings. So they're probably younger than 2 years old. Sadly, I will not be able to see them grow up, but I think the decision I made was for the best.

worldpeace: I heard that too! Some people I talked to swear by using epsom salts for their RES - but I found when I used them with Charlotte, it seemed to irritate her eyes. But she does seem more comfortable.

bradmeisel: Thank you also for the well wishes :) I'm glad she's finally eating, and definitely seems to have a very healthy appetite!

Post Posted: Sat Dec 19, 2009 1:17 pm   Finally Saw A Herp Vet! - Update On Charlotte

Hey All, so 120$ later and here's the verdict: the vet dosen't think she has an RI (at least not anymore). The vet said she could not do any injections, because she dosen't feel its necessary. Plus, Charlotte's too small (1.5inches). She suggested to just give her time and continue with the dry docking - although I am increasing her water time every other day to slowly ease her back into her normal habitat. Other than that though, Charlotte's eating, basking more, swimming and begs for me to hold her! She loves to snuggle in the palm of my hand and climb. However, she still sleeps alot and has some bubbles coming out of her nose. I'm really happy! - she seems to be getting back on track.

Thank you everybody for your wonderful advice and kind words of encouragement!!! I will definitely continue to keep everybody posted on her progress :D

I think you should wait until she's 100% alright and then start increasing the water. My guess is that she is very weak now and it will take awhile for her to regain her strength back. Leaving her in 2-3 inches of water until she's better might be easier for her.

worldpeace: that definitely makes sense. The last thing I want to do is make her distressed or sick again.
