one of my turtles ( i have 2 in the same tank) has some skin-like thing coming off of his neck. It's like the skin you get when you burn your mouth? and some skin comes off? it's like that, but a little flaky... Does anyone know what's wrong with it? is it just shedding? Because my other turtles doesn't seem to have this problem.
P.S. my turtles are young, a little less than 1-inch long.

Is this visible on land or only under water? Sounds like shedding to me.....

yeah, it's only visible in water, because it's kinda clear, and only in the water do you see the skin floating around the neck

hey... i was wondering.. how long do the turtles shed for? it's been shedding for a few days now, and my tank has a lot of the skin floating around. i pump out the dirty water myself everyday, but there still seems to be quite a lot left on the turtles neck...

(ny setup is wierd)

What is the water temp? I've never seen mine shed like that for more than a week. Water that is too warm can cause excess shedding.

it's about 80-81 F. My turtles are barely a inch long. Is it too much? because that's the temp that others say should be for small turtles...

The temp for turtles under a year old is 78. No higher. Sometimes when a turtle is ill you can up the temp a couple of degrees, but you shouldn't leave it there after they are well. Besides causing excessive shedding, higher temps can cause fast growth which isn't good for your turtle.

Somewhere between 72-75 is good. As long as it's kept constant. And the basking temp should always be at least ten degrees higher than the water temp.
