Hi I have had my turtle for 9 years. He has always been in great health and eats rather good. For the past 2 weeks now he hasn't been eating the same and when he does eat he scratches at his neck and holds his mouth open, as if he is either chocking or gasping for air. What could this be? Thanks for any advice. :(

We'd love to help you figure this out, but it will be helpful to have more information. If at all possible please answer as many of these questions to help the others get an overall view of what could be causing this. Thanks. :)

In addition to the basic questions above, has your turtle been pooping? Is there gravel or small pebbles in the tank?

Also, look at the inside of his mouth--does it look normal? Is there any kind of discharge or cheesy-looking substance in it?
