Urgent Care :: urgent help needed.... my turtles eyes are shut

I returned the light to PetCo and found an even better deal... a reptisun 5.0 AND a basking heat lamp for only $5 more than what I paid for the other UVB lamp!

When I came home his eyes were open! One of them looks just a little puffy, but he has kept them open and he's moving around now! Yaaaay~

I just stumbled upon this post and I am so lucky that I did. My harchlings have closed and swollen eyes, they are not active anymore, and haven't eaten in a few days. After reading this post I realized that their eyes started to become swollen and they began to rub them about less than a week after I introduced the UVB light. I took them to the vet this morning and she guessed it was vitamin A deficiency. I wish I would have known about this UBV problem earlier because since they have been showing signs of sickness I've increased the time that the light is on. Also I wouldn't have paid $230 on the vet visit and treatment.

@111.ashwin- Yes, it does sound like a Vitamin A deficiency. I hope the shot and supplements work.

@aero- You should try this UVB Bulb, it works great!

I have the exact same bulb and it caused my turtles' eyes to swell really bad. I would recommend that you pay close attention to your turtles if you choose to use this bulb, and if you notice any change in their behaviour remove it.

I got the Repti-Sun 5.0 Compact/Basking Spot Lamp combo and Scooter has never been happier. He's very active again and he basks alot more!
