What is the basking temperature? i dont know but I'm using a 60w bulb
Is there a basking light? yes
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? yes
What kind is it or what is it made out of? a rock
Is there a UVB light? nope

What have you been trying to feed it? tetraBABY pellets for turtles
When was the last time your turtle ate? a week ago

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? ritght now she/he is seperated from the other turtle she's now on a 5x4x4 inch tank (WxLxH)
Is the tank near a window? no
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? no

Have you read the Basic Care section? yes
Have you searched the forums for similar situations? yes
Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms? yes, she/he is inactive.

Hi everyone my name is Bert and I'm new in this community.I'm from the Philippines. My turtle is having a problem with his/her eyes coz its completely shut, and because of that she/he can't eat. I researched some medicine about that problem and I found out that I need to buy those turtle eye drops. But here in the Philippines I can't find any of those EyeDrops even in the leading pet store called BioReseach doesn't have any stocks right now. So my question is what can I do with my turtle without the eyedrops. Because its been a week since she/he last ate. Thanks in advance everyone!

Ok, looking at the list first thing I notice is that you don't know the water temps. You need to pick up a digital thermometer to measure the heat of the water and basking spot. Water temperature may have something to do with your turt's condition. Is the little one gasping, swimming lopsided, basking excessively? I'm kind of thinking respiratory infection, but it could just be eye irritation from the water. Try soaking the pellets in tuna juice and holding them to his mouth, the added scent could tempt him to eat. What's it's activity level like, does it still swim or is it sedentary? Good luck, I hope it pulls through. But you do need to pick a few things up for your turts.

Hi RyanJ, thanks for your reply. Yeah he/she does bask excessively. I put him/her on a separate tank without water, cause the last time i put him/her in a tank with water he/she is upside down and I'm scared about him/her being drowned. I'll try the tuna thing later, all I want is him/her to eat until I found some eyedrops. Coz I'm afraid that she/he will die of starvation. Thanks again

Hi pinoyflavor,
If you cannot get turtle eye drops you can try looking for cod liver oil in a regular pharmacy. You can apply it to the eyes just like an eye drop. I hope this helps, but I do think your turtle may have some other issues going on from the sound of it. Ryan is right and water temp is very important. Also, you need to put the turtle back in the water to eat. They cannot eat on dry land and need the water to swallow correctly.Good Luck.

I'm guessing this is a hatchling RES, which means things are a little more dire than they might be for an adult. Even shallow water is necessary, because as imderanged said turtles need water to eat as they don't produce saliva like we do when eating. Turts can go for a little while without eating, I'm more concerned with the general malaise yours seems to have. I really do think the poor little guy has an RI. You say the last time they were in water they were upside down? That may be when they contracted the RI, a near-drowning can usually lead to an RI due to water in the lungs.

It almost sounds like a Respiratory Infection because of the shut eyes and of the lethargicness.Are his eyes swollen?Is he swimming weird or lopsided?

Hi guys I bought a cod liver oil yesterday and was so excited to go home and treat my sick RES. But when I got home I was so unfortunate to see that my REs is already dead. All I have now is one tiny healthy RES and I promised myself that I will take good care of him whatever it takes. Bye little RES. REST IN PEACE!

I'm sorry, I hate to hear of a turtle passing away. It may ease your pain to know that many hatchlings pass away quickly, and that by the time you noticed it was likely too late. Keep a close eye on the other one for any RI symptoms. Good luck.

BUT, on a brighter note
(not trying to sound harsh)

but many will agree with me when I tell you having one turtle is better than having two. AND it is true that many hatchlings die, so I guess you're lucky to still have at least one right!
