To start off.. it was all my fault. Bought Gene a new tank (the sort of big plastic container used to hold stuff).. Gene was swimming around happily for a while and arnd 4 hrs later i noticed his neck had some red brown tissue.. upon checking closer i realised it was a wound.. looks like a like gash.. he's not bleeding much but can't really tell since he struggles alot and i fear he scratches his injury in the process. What can i do to help him?! he's quite young and is probably prone to diseases, esp now that he has an open wound. I've dry docked him but am still extremel worried. Is there any medical stuff tt i can buy for him and wt else shld i do to help him? It was only after he gt injured did i check the tank and realise that some tiny bits of plastic were indeed protruding.

How big is the gash? If the wound isn't really deep and the blood is starting to clot, I'd rinse the wound in clean water, let it dry and apply some antibiotic ointment like Neosporin on it. I'd dry dock him for a while after. Make sure any water he does into (i.e., tank water) is clean.

My RES got a nasty gash last summer (lost a lot of blood) just behind his eye, and that is basically what I did. To make sure the wound was healing, he was dry tanked for a bit over a week and allowed in water twice a day for about 30 minutes to eat and get hydrated. He hated it, but the wound healed fine.

How did he get hurt? Was there a rough spot on the plastic container? If there is, you need to get some aquarium silicon and smooth it over.
